Information Overload?
Some people will do nothing but complain about how much technology we have around us, but personally I cannot get enough of it! Mind you, being a self-confessed geek does have its advantages you know… and one of these is being entirely comfortable with twenty-first century life. However, there is a dark side to this as well… I begin to feel very uneasy whenever I’m taken away from my digital cocoon. Although that’s okay; I’ll just not be planning any picnics in the countryside any time soon!!
But complaining about technology is pretty stupid if you stop and think about it anyhow. After all, it has certainly made a big improvement to our lives. And a lot of people who sit around whining about being inundated by gadgetry and gizmos can often be found on the World Wide Web when they find themselves struggling to find a particular item in the ‘ordinary' shops!
Besides, technology has also made things a great deal safer for us all. Just think how many people have gotten themselves out of a tricky situation simply because of having a mobile phone on their person. Whilst sat navs are an absolute godsend, especially for lone female drivers…
No, these people who think we have too much tech around us are only looking at one side of things. They may like the idea of marching through the streets with ‘DOWN WITH PROGRESS!' emblazoned on pvc banners, but they know the truth of it all deep down inside! Technology has done so many things to help us; we have all the information we could want (right at our fingertips), much improved-upon medical equipment and far better communication devices.
Of course, modern tech stuff also happens to be thoroughly cool most of the time as well. However, those ‘anti-betterment' campaigners just wouldn’t understand that part at all…
